Blue John Pendants
Blue John is a scarce mineral, a type of Fluor-Spar which boasts a beautiful rainbow of colours.
Different hues of blue, purple and yellow are found within it, giving a unique quality to each stone. We source Blue John from the historic mines of Castleton in the Peak District, the only place on Earth that it has ever been discovered. Deep within the limestone, the Blue John is found as veins and nodules. It is expertly hand mined to preserve the structure and bands of colour inside it. First discovered by the Romans, this gemstone is now very popular within jewellery. It complements Whitby Jet very well so we often combine the two gemstones within our jewellery to create a beautiful colour contrast.
